Being generous and collaborative is a good point -- but also, knowing your own strengths and weaknesses, or those of your collaborator. It might not be as rigid as one person writing music, and the other the words, but if you know which skills or elements in particular you might find easiest or gravitate towards, it can help the interplay and co-writing to be more symbiotic
